تقع على عاتق الشحن البحري الدولي نقل ما يزيد عن 80% من مجمل التجارة العالمية في كل أنحاء العالم. والعالم يعتمد على قطاع الشحن البحري الدولي المأمون والكفء، الذي يعد عنصرا أساسيا لأي برنامج يهدف إلى النمو الاقتصادي الأخضر والمستدام.
وتعزيز الشحن المستدام والتنمية المستدامة للملاحة البحرية هو من أولويات المنظمة البحرية الدولية للأعوام المقبلة. ولذا فإن الكفاءة في استخدام الطاقة، والتكنولوجيات الجديدة والابتكارات، والتثقيف والتدريب المتصلان بالملاحة البحرية، والأمن البحري، ضروري لنظام النقل البحري العالمي المستدام والأخضر.

International shipping is responsible for transporting more than 80% of all global trade around the world. The world depends on a safe and efficient international shipping sector, which is an essential component of any program aimed at green and sustainable economic growth.
Promoting sustainable shipping and the sustainable development of maritime navigation is one of the priorities of the International Maritime Organization for the coming years. Therefore, energy efficiency, new technologies and innovations, maritime education and training, and maritime security are essential to a sustainable and green global shipping system.
