دعت مفوضة الأمم المتحدة لحقوق الإنسان ميشيل باشليت اليوم الخميس الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين إلى “وقف الهجوم المسلح على أوكرانيا”.
في حديثها بعد يوم من وصول الصراع إلى عتبة الستة أشهر ، سلطت باتشيليت الضوء على الوضع فيما يتعلق بمحطة الطاقة النووية زابوريزهزهيا ، قائلة إن القتال في المنطقة يشكل “مخاطر لا يمكن تصورها” على المدنيين والبيئة.
وألقت روسيا وأوكرانيا باللوم على بعضهما البعض في هجمات بالقرب من المحطة ، وقالت الوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية إنها مستعدة لإرسال فرق إلى الموقع لضمان سلامته.
وقالت باشيليت إنه يتعين على القوات الروسية والأوكرانية إحترام القانون الإنساني الدولي ، بينما يتعين على المجتمع الدولي ضمان المساءلة عن الانتهاكات.
قال مسؤولون أوكرانيون ، الخميس ، إن عدد القتلى جراء هجوم صاروخي روسي على محطة للسكك الحديدية في شرق أوكرانيا أرتفع إلى 25 بعد العثور على عدة جثث أخرى تحت الأنقاض في بلدة تشابلين.
وكتب وزير الخارجية الأمريكي أنتوني بلينكين على تويتر “الضربة الصاروخية الروسية على محطة قطار مليئة بالمدنيين في أوكرانيا تتناسب مع نمط من الفظائع”. “سنواصل ، مع شركاء من جميع أنحاء العالم ، الوقوف إلى جانب أوكرانيا والسعي إلى مساءلة المسؤولين الروس.”
أشاد الرئيس الأمريكي جو بايدن يوم الأربعاء بـ “الشجاعة غير العادية والتفاني من أجل الحرية” للشعب الأوكراني في صد المقاتلين الروس ، بينما أعلن عن تقديم ما يقرب من 3 مليارات دولار كمساعدات عسكرية جديدة.
في عيد إستقلال أوكرانيا ، الذي يصادف 31 عامًا على الهروب من الحكم السوفيتي في عام 1991 ، قال بايدن إن هذا اليوم “ليس مجرد احتفال بالماضي ، ولكنه تأكيد مدوي على أن أوكرانيا تظل بفخر – وستظل – دولة مستقلة وذات سيادة.”
قال بايدن إن الدفعة الجديدة من المساعدة العسكرية صُممت لمساعدة أوكرانيا في الدفاع عن نفسها على المدى الطويل ، حيث قال مسؤولون أمريكيون إن بعض الأسلحة قد لا تُستخدم لمدة عام أو عامين. وقال الزعيم الأمريكي إن الحزمة ستشمل أنظمة دفاع جوي وأنظمة مدفعية وذخائر وأنظمة مضادة للطائرات بدون طيار ورادارات.
وتأتي المساعدة الجديدة بالإضافة إلى حوالي 10.6 مليار دولار من المساعدات العسكرية التي أرسلتها الولايات المتحدة بالفعل إلى أوكرانيا في العام ونصف العام الماضيين.
قال بايدن إنه يعلم أن عيد الإستقلال هذا العام “حلو ومر للعديد من الأوكرانيين حيث قتل أو جرح الآلاف ، ونزح الملايين من ديارهم ، وسقط الكثيرون ضحية الفظائع والهجمات الروسية.”
وأضاف: “اليوم وكل يوم ، نقف إلى جانب الشعب الأوكراني لنعلن أن الظلام الذي يقود الاستبداد لا يضاهي شعلة الحرية التي تنير أرواح الأحرار في كل مكان.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, on Thursday called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “stop the armed attack on Ukraine”.
Speaking the day after the conflict reached the six-month threshold, Bachelet highlighted the situation with regard to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, saying that the fighting in the area poses “unimaginable risks” to civilians and the environment.
Russia and Ukraine have blamed each other for attacks near the plant, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has said it is ready to send teams to the site to ensure its safety.
Bachelet said that Russian and Ukrainian forces must respect international humanitarian law, while the international community must ensure accountability for violations.
The death toll from a Russian missile attack on a railway station in eastern Ukraine has risen to 25, Ukrainian officials said Thursday, after several more bodies were found under the rubble in the town of Chaplin.
“The Russian missile strike on a train station full of civilians in Ukraine fits a pattern of atrocities,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken wrote on Twitter. “We, with partners from around the world, will continue to stand by Ukraine and seek to hold Russian officials accountable.”
US President Joe Biden on Wednesday praised the “extraordinary courage and dedication for freedom” of the Ukrainian people in fending off Russian fighters, while announcing nearly $3 billion in new military aid.
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, which marks 31 years since the escape from Soviet rule in 1991, Biden said the day was “not just a celebration of the past, but a resounding affirmation that Ukraine proudly remains – and will continue to be – an independent and sovereign nation.”
Biden said the new batch of military assistance is designed to help Ukraine defend itself in the long term, with US officials saying some weapons may not be used for a year or two. The US leader said that the package will include air defense systems, artillery systems, munitions, anti-drone systems and radars.
The new assistance comes on top of about $10.6 billion in military aid the United States has already sent to Ukraine in the past year and a half.
Biden said he knows that this year’s Independence Day “is bittersweet for many Ukrainians as thousands have been killed or injured, millions driven from their homes, and many more victims of Russian atrocities and attacks.”
He added: “Today and every day, we stand with the Ukrainian people to declare that the darkness that drives tyranny is no match for the torch of freedom that lights the souls of free people everywhere.”
