كشف تقرير جديد أن المنطقة العربية لا تزال منطقة منشأ وعبور رئيسية، وإحدى الوجهات المفضّلة للمهاجرين الدوليين والأشخاص الذين هُجّروا قسرا. ففي عام 2020، استضافت الدول العربية حوالي 15 في المائة من المهاجرين واللاجئين في العالم (41.4 مليون مهاجر ولاجئ). واستضافت 12 دولة من المنطقة 14 في المائة من العمال المهاجرين في العالم.
علاوة على ذلك، قصد نحو 9.3 مليون لاجئ المنطقة التماسا للحماية، منهم 3.6 مليون لاجئ من المشمولين بولاية مفوضية اللاجئين، و5.7 مليون فلسطيني من المسجلين لدى وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الشرق الأدنى (الأونروا).
أما فيما يتعلق بالهجرة إلى الخارج، فقد هاجر 32.8 مليون شخص أو أجبروا على النزوح من البلدان العربية في عام 2020 حسب التقديرات، بينما مكث 44 في المائة منهم في المنطقة. ويمثل اللاجئون من حيث عددهم مجموعة بارزة حيث بلغت نسبة اللاجئين القادمين من بلدان عربية 43 في المائة من مجموع اللاجئين المشمولين بولاية مفوضية اللاجئين (8.9 مليون شخص من أصل 20.7 مليون شخص في العالم).

A new report has revealed that the Arab region remains a major region of origin and transit, and one of the preferred destinations for international migrants and forcibly displaced persons. In 2020, Arab countries hosted about 15 percent of the world’s migrants and refugees (41.4 million migrants and refugees). Twelve countries from the region hosted 14 percent of the world’s migrant workers.
In addition, some 9.3 million refugees went to the area to seek protection, including 3.6 million refugees under the mandate of UNHCR, and 5.7 million Palestinians registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
As for out-migration, an estimated 32.8 million people migrated or were forced to flee from Arab countries in 2020, while 44 percent of them stayed in the region. In terms of their number, refugees represent a prominent group, with the proportion of refugees coming from Arab countries amounting to 43 per cent of the total refugees covered by the mandate of UNHCR (8.9 million people out of 20.7 million people in the world).
