Alliance for Peace

During the ninth Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, the Secretary-General of the United Nations calls for building an “alliance for peace” to face the tests of the times.
The UN Secretary-General stressed that in a world where “the ancient evils of anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim bigotry, persecution of Christians, xenophobia and racism are being revived”, the Alliance of Civilizations is helping to work in a spirit of solidarity.
Mr. Antonio Guterres was speaking at the opening of the Ninth Global Forum for the Alliance of Civilizations held in the Moroccan city of Fez.
“The forces of division and hatred are finding fertile ground in a landscape of injustice and conflict,” said Mr. Guterres.
He said that God mentioned in the Qur’an “and made you peoples and tribes so that you may know one another” and urged: “Let us work, in this perilous moment, to draw inspiration from the spirit of these meanings, and let us stand together as one human family. A family rich in diversity, equal in its dignity and rights, and united by virtue of its solidarity.”
